Advanced manual, and semi-skilled work in the performance of locating utility mains and appurtenances as well as related buried electrical and communication lines. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City and its Utility.
This position is Essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency. ESSENTIAL DUTIES The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Perform varied maintenance and construction activities to the City water and wastewater treatment and water distribution, wastewater collection, and reclaimed water systems.
- Perform locations of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems and appurtenances, in accordance with the Florida Statutes, Chapter 556, as outlined in the Sunshine State One Call Excavation Guide Handbook.
- Operate necessary electronic and manual equipment needed to accomplish daily job duties associated with the locating of water distribution and wastewater collection systems and appurtenances.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
- Accurately document work performed, and facilities located, including written and electronic reports, as may be required.
- Identify any errors and/or omissions in the department's base map and/or hard copy records and provide accurate information to correct departmental records.
- Prepare electronic as-built drawings, surveys, and/or computer-generated drawings of facilities located, as may be required.
- Prepare "request for location" paperwork from Sunshine State One Call for other locator personnel, as needed.
- Retrieve as-built information from the map room and/or base map on tablet computers, as needed.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Graduation from an accredited high school high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year experience with utility locates. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - Knowledge of safe work techniques and practices, while working in Public Rights-of-Way.
- Ability to work independently and in a group effort to perform assigned duties.
- Basic knowledge and/or computer skills, including a base map viewer program.
- Ability to read and use electronic and/or hard copy as-built drawings to perform assigned duties.
- Ability to read and use charts, blueprints and civil drawings.
- Knowledge of materials used in the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities, water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees and the public.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work outdoors weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, and uneven surfaces. he noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
