Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This is a licensed staff pharmacist position. The pharmacist is critical to the UHC . The pharmacist will be responsible for dispensing medications to the students, faculty, staff, and affiliates of the University of Maryland in accordance with local, state, and federal pharmacy laws. This includes all aspects of prescription workflow from data entry, filling, final verification, checking out prescriptions, and OTC items. All prescriptions are expected to be filled with pharmaceutical elegance. This means having verbs and proper grammar in directions and placing labels neatly on the product. The pharmacist will also be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, and inventory of medications and other pharmacy supplies. The pharmacist is also expected to work with other departments to meet the needs of the University Health Center. The pharmacist may be assigned other duties as needed by the pharmacy manager. The pharmacist will report directly to the pharmacy manager.
This is a full-time, exempt salaried position.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: - Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD).
- Maryland Board of Pharmacy License.
- Maryland Certification to Administer Vaccinations.
- CPR Certification.
- Must maintain licensure and certification for the duration of employment.
Experience: - 3 years as a pharmacist in a retail setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal pharmacy laws.
- Knowledge of federal confidentiality and HIPAA / FERPA regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and therapeutics.
- Ability to use computer systems to manage patient information, access EMR , process prescriptions, and point-of-sale transactions, and maintain inventory.
- Ability to resolve complex third-party payer rejections, process prior authorizations, and follow up with providers as necessary.
- Ability to identify and manage drug interactions, resolve contraindications, and provide guidance accordingly.
- Ability to provide appropriate drug recommendations given a diagnosis, disease state, or constellation of symptoms.
- Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to provide useful patient education and counseling on prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- Ability to multitask, think critically, and independently solve problems related to pharmacy tasks, prescription filling, and personnel issues that may require immediate attention and action.
- Ability to perform a review of literature, summarize, and formulate an evidence-based response to drug information requests.
- Ability to direct, delegate, and prioritize tasks to student employees as appropriate and based on the needs of the pharmacy.
- Ability to conduct independent vaccination events and administer vaccinations as assigned.
Preferences:
Preferences: - Previous work in a high-volume retail environment.
- Familiarity with Cardinal Order Express and inventory management experience, especially with minimizing costs.
- Extensive experience with processing third-party prescription billing, including Maryland. Medicaid, commercial insurance, and manufacturer coupons.
- Punctual, prompt, reliable, highly detail-oriented.
- Workflow management through prioritizing tasks on the basis of acuity and importance.

Physical Demands
- Typical physical demands of an office setting and potential exposure to communicable disease by virtue of working in a health care environment.
- The position is physically and mentally demanding due to the level of concentration necessary to check a prescription through all levels of filling, billing, and dispensing in a busy work environment.
- The employee must be able to stand in one position for hours at a time.
- This is an Essential position.
