Position Responsibilities: - Receives orders, verify it with the nurse and act before applying, adjusting or removing a cast, braces, tractions, splints or any other ortho tech services devices within the timeframe that the procedure is ordered
- Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and supplies required to perform ortho tech services (i.e. for traction application)
- Maintains Cast Cart, re-order and change supplies utilized at the time of the service
- Assembles and discontinues traction(s) and or trapeze as ordered by physician in a safe manner within the timeframe requested by physician
- Makes rounds, on a daily basis, on patients utilizing orthopedic equipment throughout the hospital to ensure proper adjustment
- Provides coverage and assist physician for MSMC/MHI campuses (as appropriate) for the orthopedic/rehabilitation inpatients; assisting when necessary with procedures, casts and making rounds with orthopedic physicians as requested
- Assists physician in cast application and removal as requested
- Documents Ortho Tech services daily, in the computer or in a legible fashion, in compliance with Policy and Procedures as reviewed by supervisor or during chart review in order to maintain accurate and necessary records on patients to ensure appropriate dispensing and charging of equipment and services
- Cleans equipment with appropriate hospital approved disinfectant, as specified by P and P, and store it appropriately when not in use
- Maintains updated inventory of ortho tech equipment (i.e. soft goods and/or bed framing/tractions) on a weekly basis or as needed and submit purchase order forms for needed supplies and provide a list for central supply
- Inspects equipment to be used for patient services and report to supervisor any maintenance or sanitary problems
- Attends and participates in in-service training, orientation and educational programs
Qualifications: - Orthopedic Technician Certificate, equivalent Orthopedic Technician military training, or comparable work experience required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
